Spain

From the Balearics in the Mediterranean to the Canaries in the Atlantic and from the Pyrenees in the north to the Sierra Nevada in the south, Spain’s diverse landscape offers a tremendous range of active outdoor adventure. Between Tarifa on the south coast and the Canary Islands, Spain almost has a monopoly on Europe’s top windsurfing and kitesurfing destinations. The Balearics are great for sailing and virtually the entire northwest coast from the Pyrenees to the Portuguese border is a hot spot for surfing.

The Alpujarras in the Sierra Nevada Mountains attract hill walkers and mountain bikers from all over the world while the Extremadura’s wild woodlands and wildlife prove particularly alluring to those in search of solitude. Mountaineering is of course popular in the Pyrenees and Sierra Nevada however, these two great ranges are not the only high places in Spain. The country is literally covered in mountain ranges. It’s hardly surprising either that Spain also offers some pretty descent skiing and snowboarding – the best being found in the Pyrenees or Sierra Nevada.
